ABOUT CODE TUNER
Technical depth. Commercial perspective.
Software sits at the heart of a business. Understanding its complexity helps you make better decisions about how to develop, maintain and protect it.
Code Tuner helps engineering, product and business leaders see where technical debt is concentrated, understand how their codebase is changing, and decide where development attention is needed most.
Why we built Code Tuner
Knowing that technical debt exists is only the starting point. The harder questions are where it sits, what it affects, and which improvements deserve priority.
Those questions become particularly important when delivery slows, a business acquires unfamiliar software, or knowledge is concentrated in a small number of people.
We built Code Tuner to bring clearer evidence into these decisions. By analysing software structure, complexity and change activity, it gives teams a stronger basis for investigation, prioritisation and planning.
Meet the founders
Code Tuner brings together Julian’s research and software engineering expertise with Alex’s experience in commercial development, digital strategy and customer positioning.

Prof Julian M. Bass CEng FBCS
Co-founder | Research and Technology
Julian is a researcher, author and innovator specialising in cloud-hosted B2B software systems. He holds a PhD in avionic software systems engineering and is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the British Computer Society.
His work spans academic research and industry, including a former role as Worldwide Technical Training Manager at Chordiant Software. He has authored more than 200 research articles, chapters and conference papers, attracted more than 3,000 academic citations, and generated more than £1 million in research and enterprise income.
Julian brings this technical depth to Code Tuner’s approach to understanding software structure, complexity and maintainability.

Alex Sherman
Co-founder | Commercial and Customer Strategy
Alex leads Code Tuner’s commercial, digital and customer positioning work, drawing on experience supporting software sales, user experience and commercial rollout.
He has worked with startups, SMEs and global operators, including leading work on software framework agreements worth more than £90 million.
His focus is on making technical insight understandable and useful to the people making decisions: helping connect what teams discover in their codebase with product priorities, customer needs and business objectives.
From code analysis to better conversations
A technical finding becomes more useful when a team understands the product capability or business workflow it affects.
Code Tuner provides evidence to support that conversation. Engineers can investigate complexity hotspots. Product leaders can weigh improvement work against their roadmap. Business leaders can develop a clearer understanding of the software they depend on.
The aim is practical: help teams focus their effort where it matters, then review how their software changes over time.
Understand the software you are responsible for
Whether you are developing an established product, taking ownership of a codebase or planning improvement work, start with a clearer view.
